🇬🇷 Details revealed about Victor Vernicos’ performance for Eurovision 2023

In an interview with Greek TV show “Two in 1”, stage director Konstantinos Rigos has shared more details about his vision for Victor Vernicos’ entry, “What They Say”, for the Liverpool stage.

Hoping to bring the elements of the song to the stage

In the interview, Rigos discussed the “light” and “dark” sides of the song, and how he hopes to bring the two elements together on stage. He hopes that the performance will be emotional.

It’s a very nice moment! I really like doing this part. I really like that he is a kid, so young, so fresh and that he is also the songwriter. It’s a difficult song because it has a lot of changes… but I believe that Victor will accomplish it in the best possible way! I want Victor to look fresh on stage!

Greece has returned to an internal selection this year, but invited the public to have their say on their Eurovision entry as part of a seventy-person audience committee. The votes from this were combined with those from a seven-person jury from ERT. The ERT committee votes were weighted 49.4%, and the audience committee (chosen to reflect the demographics of the Eurovision audience) was weighted 50.6%, reflecting the changes made to Eurovision voting this year.

Greece’s Eurovision Journey

In 1974, Greece made their Eurovision debut with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” (Κρασί, θάλασσα και τ’αγόρι μου), placing 11th. Since then, they have participated on 42 occasions, reaching the grand final 40 times and winning once in 2005.

Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Amanda Tenfjord with the song “Die Together”. Greece qualified for the Grand Final, where they placed 8th, receiving 215 points from the Jury and Televoters.
