🇨🇭 Switzerland opens submissions for Eurovision 2024 search

After revealing its plans for Eurovision 2024, the broadcaster has now opened the submission of entries, in the search of Remo Forrer’s successor for its participation in Malmö.

Submissions open until August 25

The window for submissions were opened on August 10th and will run until August 24th, with a deadline of 11pm CEST. All songs submitted to the broadcaster will be assessed by editors, with any songs failing to meet SRG SSR’s requirements being discarded. Those remaining in contention will then be put through a number of stages within the broadcaster. A panel of national and international viewers and an international jury of 25 music professionals will select the song.

Switzerland’s broadcaster specified the style of the song they are looking for. In a booklet providing the rules for submissions, the broadcaster said:

SRG SSR is looking for a modern, striking song that complies with international requirements

As well as this, the broadcaster stipulated that nationality will not be a determining factor for those wishing to apply. However, should two artists receive equal scores during the selection process, preference will be given to Swiss citizens or residents. The successful artist and entry to be reevaled in early 2024.

Switzerland’s Eurovision journey

Switzerland both hosted and debuted in the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Their first participation was successful, as they won with Lys Assia’s “Refrain”. Since then, they have participated on 62 occasions, making the Grand Final 51 times.

Switzerland’s most recent participation saw them being represented by Remo Forrer with his song “Watergun”. Performing in the first semi-final, he qualified for the Grand Final for a fourth consecutive participation. In the final, Switzerland finished 20th, after receiving 92 points. Of these, 61 came from the jury and 31 points came from the televote.
