🇺🇦 Ukraine confirms Eurovision 2024 participation

Another day, another confirmation, Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC has confirmed that it will be participating in next year’s competition, with its 2024 participation being its 19th appearance in the competition.

Ukraine to select its Eurovision 2024 representative via National Final

UA:PBC has revealed that a National Final will once again be used to select Ukraine’s representative for Malmö. In addition to this, the broadcaster has revealed that Dmytro Shurov (Pianoboy) will once again be the music producer after assuming the role for 2023. They had the following to say upon the announcement:

The call for entries of the National Selection and the new Eurovision season in Ukraine will start soon. I’m speaking to everyone now: tune in, we must create and choose the next song to make the country proud, to win the hearts of Europe and light up a new star from Ukraine. This year, there is a surprise for you all – the viewers will be able to choose one of the finalists themselves. There is so much interesting ahead

Ukraine’s Head of Delegation Oksana Skybinska has said the following in regards to Ukraine’s participation in Sweden:

Sweden has repeatedly been recognised for its exemplary skills of hosting this international event, with record-breaking 204 million viewers watching the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden. Ukraine’s presence at this international event is significant, especially in such a difficult time of war. It will let us bring Ukraine’s voice and message to the whole world.

In addition, the National Selection, which will determine this year’s Ukrainian representative, will allow us to invite (at least online) Eurovision fans from all over the world to Ukraine – to show how, despite the difficulties of the war, Ukraine cares about its musical culture. This year’s National Selection will feature innovations allowing Ukrainians to be even more involved in making key selection decisions. More information about the terms and novelties of the National Selection will be announced this week when the application process starts

Further details about Ukraine’s selection for Eurovision 2024 is set to be revealed in due course.

Ukraine’s Eurovision Journey

Ukraine is one of the most successful countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has scored eight top-five placements, with an extra four top-ten finishes. Ukraine won the Contest three times – in 2004, 2016 and 2022 respectively. Ukraine made history for being the first ex-Soviet country to win the Contest more than once.

In 2023, TVORCHI represented Ukraine as co-host entry in Liverpool with their song “Heart of Steel”. The duo finished in 6th place, scoring 243 points – of which 54 points came from the jury, whilst the remaining 189 points came from the televote.
