As part of his participation in the 16th edition of Beste Zangers (The Best Singer), Duncan Laurence’s cover of the songs he covers are released. Up first is his cover of fellow Dutch Eurovision participant Douwe Bob’s song “I Do”.
An emotional cover of Douwe Bob’s track
The track (originally performed by Douwe Bob) originally appeared in Douwe Bob’s fourth studio album “The Shape I’m In”, where Douwe performs the track with Jacqueline Govaert, which is mainly piano driven.
For his performance on Beste Zangers, Duncan maintains the atmosphere of the track, despite having a live band. Throughout the performance, you are able to see that Douwe Bob was very emotional during the performance as he hears his rendition of the track, with Douwe mentioning the following afterwards:
“Duncan is able to really touch you with his voice, and he hits every note perfectly and clear. It simply cuts through your soul”
After the episode was aired on AVROTROS, Duncan took to social media to thank his fans for the postitive reaction to his cover.
Thanks for all the sweet messages on my first Beste Zangers performance! Douwe, I’m such a big fan. I Do is one of the most beautiful songs ever and I’m honored I got to sing it for you❤️
