“I grew up with Dansk Melodi Grand Prix both as the biggest and wildest TV event and as a precious treasure on cassette tape. Sequins and stilettos are in my blood, so it’s a huge honor for me to be the host and, on top of that, together with my idol ‘Mademoiselle Europe’”

What we know about Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 will take place on February 17th. We previously reported that Danish broadcaster DR received over 500 applications for next year’s national final. It has also been confirmed eight acts will participate in the national selection. There will be a pre-show in 2024 for artists to showcase acoustic versions of their songs to the public.

The voting procedure for the show will remain the same as in previous years. Two rounds will decide the winner of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 – the first round will have no scoreboards or points, with an undetermined number of acts going through to the super-final. Once at the super-final, the same televote percentage bar format will be brought out.

Denmark’s Eurovision journey

Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final seven times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.

Denmark’s most recent participation saw them being represented by Reiley with the song “Breaking My Heart”. After opening the second semi-final in Liverpool, Reiley finished in 14th place receiving just 6 points from the televote.
