Which Eurovizija.lt participants might you recognise?

Many of the artists competing in Eurovizija this year are returning to the contest. This includes three previous Eurovision acts:

  • The Roop, who won the Lithuanian national final in 2020 and 2021, finishing 8th in 2021 with their song “Discotheque”
  • Vilija represented Lithuania in 2014 with the song “Attention,” just missing out on the final by finishing 11th in the semi-final
  • Andrius Pojavis has previous experience in Malmö as he competed in Eurovision 2013. He took “Something” to the final, finishing 22nd

Many fan favourites from previous Lithuanian national finals also return: Agnė (2023), Aistay (2020), Baltos varnos (2020), Clockwork Creep (2022), Eley (2013, 2016, 2018), Emilija V (2018, 2022), Il Senso (2023), Kotryna (2017, 2018), Monika Marija (2018, 2019, 2020), Multiks (2012, 2013, 2023), Queens of Roses (2017, 2019, 2022), Sun Francisco (2022), Vidas Bareikis of VB Gang (2017, 2018), Živilė Gedvilaitė (2018, 2019, 2022).

An updated selection process

Having announced their participation in July, LRT revealed updates to their national selection process in October, having previously used the competition “Pabandom iš Naujo” since 2020. Artists had until December 11th under the new system to submit songs to the selection, and there will be five semi-finals, the first of which will take place on January 13th 2024. Two songs from each semi-final will continue to the final, which will be hjeld February 17. Another major change for this year comes in the voting; the top three songs after the jury and televote will advance to the super final, however the artist with the most votes from the public will ultimately fly the Lithuanian flag in Malmö.

Lithuania’s Eurovision Journey

The Baltic nation made its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, where Ovidijus Vyšniauskas represented them with the song “Lopšinė mylimai”, which placed 25th. Since then, Lithuania has participated 21 times and made the Grand Final 14 times. LT United gave Lithuania their best ever Eurovision result back in 2006, where the country placed 6th.

In 2023, Monika Linkytė represented Lithuania, participating with the song “Stay”. Performing in the second semi-final, Monika qualified for the final in fourth place. In the Grand Final, Lithuania finished in 11th place overall, with 127 points – 81 points came from the juries, with another 46 points from the televote.
