With the year commencing, we look into how Junior Eurovision 2024 (which is set to take place later in the year, is taking shape. However, more countries are continuing to reveal their non-participation, and that is Norway, who will not be participating in the 22nd edition of the competition.
Potential return in 2025 in the cards?
Despite their non-participation, Eurofestivales is reporting that return could be in the cards in 2025, and that in the event of a return, it would use a selection to select its representative, which is already in the works, with the broadcaster saying:
A new national final is the first step to possibly participate again in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2025
The concept of the selection is in the work, as it is unsrue if whether or not MGPjr will return as the selection. However, the show has been on hiatus since 2022.
Norway’s Junior Eurovision Journey
Norway first took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the first edition of the Contest in 2003. Represented by 2U singing “Sinnsykt gal forelsket” in Copenhagen, Norway finished in 13th place in a field of 16, with 18 points.
Norway has since participated a further two times, with their most recent participation taking place in 2005. In Hasselt, Norway was represented by Malin Reitan and her song “Sommer og skolefri”, finishing in 3rd place with 123 points. However, since then, Norway has withdrawn from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, citing pressure on young performers.
