Following months of waiting Azerbaijan’s İctimai Television have now revealed that Fahree will represent the Caucasian nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.
Azerbaijan’s Journey to Malmö
Azerbaijan opted for an open submission of artists and songs in its search for TuralTuranX’s successor. It revealed that they received 214 song submissions, including 88 from Azeri songwriters. Additionally, İTV stated that in a break from previous years they would be prioritising entries produced by Azerbaijani songwriters.
Artists wishing to represent the country did not need to submit a song with their application, merely go through an audition process. The process long list of acts were whittled down over several rounds, until 6 acts remained.
Who is Fahree?
The 28 year old singer is relatively new to the music industry; having taking a sharp career change from training to be a lawyer. He has currently released three singles.
At time of publishing no further information has been given about Fahree’s song or timeline of its release.
Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
“Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “”Day After Day”” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has a near perfect qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018 and 2023.
For 2023, Azerbaijan was represented by twins TuralTuranX with their song “”Tell Me More””. Perfoming in the first semi-final, the duo failed to qualify for the final for the second time, receiving only 4 points from the televote.”
