As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next Eurovision 2024 entry we will be reacting to is Ireland, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Doomsday Blue” by Bambie Thug.

Our thoughts on “Doomsday Blue”

In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst three other members will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his video reaction to “Doomsday Blue”

What did the other members of the team think of “Doomsday Blue”?

Jazzi : I really enjoy this. I love the dark chanty bits of this, I absolutely adore the spoken parts in the verses – I feel they really build to the huge chorus in this. Bambie showed during Eurosong they are an incredible performer – that even came across in the tiny studio. This is something really different for Ireland and I am so here for it. I’m just glad to see them take a massive risk and really really hope this pays off for them and rewards them with a qualification because both Bambie and this song deserve it.

Daniel: Exactly what Ireland needed to send this year, for too long they’ve not been daring enough to stand out but this will do that and then some in May. It wasn’t until I rated this for That Eurovision Jury that I realised.. I really only have positive things to say about this entry. The song is really good and unique and Bambie’s style and the stage show are super great, I have some slight reservations that it will qualify from a hectic semi final but in a just world it really should, because Ireland finally deserve to break their NQ streak.

Ireland’s Eurovision Journey

In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 56 times (making the Grand Final 45 times), and has won the competition seven times, which is currently tied for the record of most wins.

Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Wild Youth, with their song “We Are One”. They placed 12th in the semi-final, receiving 10 points from the televote, missing out on the Grand Final.
