As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next entry we will be reacting to is the Slovenia, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Veronika” by Raiven.
Our thoughts on “Veronika”
In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst three other members will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his video reaction to “Veronika”
What did the other members of the team think of “Veronika”?
Daniel: Simply put, good without being great, and it’s with that I think this song might struggle. I can see it being the second or third favourite of a lot of people in the semi final who aren’t using their votes on this song. That being said, I really hope it does qualify because we’ve waited long enough to see Raiven in the contest, the song is powerful and her voice is good.
Jazzi: This is a song that I have to admit has taken a while to grow on me. I never thought the song was bad in any way, I just took a while to really notice it. I don’t know, it’s hard to put my finger on. However it has started to click now. I do love the visuals in the music video it really does fit the song. And I love the dark electronica vibe of this and feel it will stand out among this year’s songs. I do still feel I need to see the song live to give a full assessment, however I know from past EMA national finals Raiven is a seasoned performer so I have no concerns that she will put on a show.

Slovenia’s Eurovision Journey
In 1993, Slovenia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with 1X Band and the song “Tih deževen dan”, which placed 22nd. Since their debut, they have participated 27 times – of which, 15 were where they qualified for the Grand Final.
Slovenia’s recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Joker Out, who sang the song “Carpe Diem”. Performing at the second semi-final, the band placed 5th, therefore qualifying for the final for the first time since 2019. At the final, Slovenia finished in 21st place, receiving 78 points. Of these, 33 came from the jury and 45 from the televote.
