With the rehearsals for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest starting in just a few weeks, we thought we’d have a little go at trying to make our own jury scores for this year’s contest. While there’s no way to accurately predict what the juries or televotes will decide next month, we can say how we would vote if we were jurors.
No Rules! (okay we do have to have some rules)
The 36 countries competing this year have been randomly sorted into seven segments. Each segment will be voted on by 5 jurors. They have assessed based on six categories: Melodic Impact, Artist Presence, Individuality, Attention Drawing, Vocal Fit, and Lyrical Impact. Exact specifications of these criteria can be found below. Our five jurors have given a score of 1 to 5 on each of the six topics, allowing each juror to give a maximum of 30 points to each song. In total there are up to 150 points available to each song. Once every song and score has been presented a full breakdown with a ranking of all 37 of this year’s entries.
Additionally, all of our jurors were asked to give one positive, and one negative comment about each song in a constructive manner. As well as opinions we have also guest Jurors from other outlets voicing their opinions. In line with our current editorial policy Israel will not be reviewed as part of this jury. These are our personal opinions based on the criteria outlined. This is in no way attempt to accurately predict what will be the outcome of live shows and should not be taken as such.
Countries And Jurors For Part Five
The six countries that make up the fifth segment being voted on are: The United Kingdom, Croatia, Switzerland, Finland, Spain, and Serbia.
The jurors voting in this segment are: Ben, Georgia, Daniel, and Jazzi. Joining us as a guest juror was youtuber Cara aka Eurovision Fantasia.
Voting Criteria
Criteria 1: Melodic Impact
How lasting is the beat of the track. The more the beat stays, the higher the ranking.
Criteria 2: Artist’s Presence
If a national final is used, how their presence on stage affected the performance. If an internal selection was used, and no pre-party of other live footage is available then their presence is assessed based on their history.
Criteria 3: Individuality
How different is the song compared to the rest of the acts participating this year.
Criteria 4: Attention Drawing
How drawn in are you by the song. Are you waiting for it to finish, or completely engrossed.
Criteria 5: Vocal Fit
Assessing the vocal fit of the artist to the song rather than judging their technical ability in full. ie. X singer may have a wider range to Y singer, though singer Y may utilise the range better in their song and therefore should be ranked higher than X.
Criteria 6: Lyrical Impact
How lasting are the lyrics to you. Has listening to it left you singing the song.

Positives
Ben: Olly is an amazing artist, and this is just another example on why so many people were begging for him to represent the UK.
Georgia: Olly is an experienced, competent performer. There aren’t any surprises with him, you know you’re going to get a good performance.
Daniel: Olly has a really charismatic and is putting his acting experience to good use
when it comes to stage presence.
Jazzi: Vocally this song really suits Olly’s voice, you can hear this is Olly in a song and he is heavily present in the song as well as the music video. I am expecting a good stage performance from Olly in May with this.
Cara: song has almost a hypnotic feeling, very much drawn in
Negatives
Ben: The song ends up feeling a bit too generic.
Georgia: I don’t know how you stage this? I feel like for it to truly work you need to stage it right but I don’t know how you do that.
Daniel: Olly isn’t exactly known for his brilliant live vocals, I can’t help but think we’re
ending up with another Mae Muller type situation.
Jazzi: I do think lyrically and melody wise this is a little repetitive. And I do worry that by the time the song comes to a close people will switch off due to the repetitive nature.
Cara: it needs a revamp with a big ‘moment’ for more impact
Croatia Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim

Positives
Ben: The chaotic and repeating backtrack do a great job at conveying the the mood of uncertainty and anxiety from the lyrics.
Georgia: A very unique performance to say the least. It has a strong beat and the performance in Malmö will definitely be a memorable one.
Daniel: There’s a really strong message to the song and I think there is a very high
likelihood that the viewers at home will pick up on and relate to it.
Jazzi: On stage and in the music video it is clear Baby Lasagna has a great personality to really showcase this song as a performance. I also really like the meaning of the lyrics about leaving a small town for a better life, however having anxieties about that, I really like how easily the message of that comes across in this.
Cara: very fun to dance to with everyone
Negatives
Ben: The backtrack can be overwhelming for some people and sometimes makes it difficult to focus on the lyrics on first listen.
Georgia: With its uniqueness, I feel like some first-time viewers may be put off by the performance.
Daniel: I’m sure there will be claims of “Käärijä copy” thrown about from those not
wise to the meaning of the song.
Jazzi: In live performances we have seen Baby Lasagna struggle with some of the rap elements of this song however he has had a few months to work on this so hopefully come May it is all sorted. One issue as well in terms of Melodic impact is that for some the rock elements of this may come across a little dated for 2024, and that could switch some viewers off.
Cara: not sure if the performance is strong enough to contend at esc atm

Positives
Ben: The melody keeps you intrerested for the entire track, and the lyrics have such a beautiful and important message.
Georgia: An incredibly unique mix of genres/sounds with an exceptional vocalist and an important message in the lyrics? I’m sold.
Daniel: This song has absolutely massive Eurovision Winner potential. The song is
crafted absolutely brilliantly, all the different parts that you wouldn’t think work together
absolutely do.
Jazzi: Okay there is A LOT of good here. I’ll start with the lyrics which show a journey of Nemo finally being proud of who they are. They are an individual and they are proud of that, however it’s been a journey to get to being happy with who they are. The Opera, Rap and Drum and Bass elements actually all work together really nicely, I am really excited to see a live performance of this – at the time of writing I am yet to find one.
Cara: the genre mixing works very well and shows off all of nemos talents
Negatives
Ben: It could feel a bit too chaotic for some.
Georgia: There is a lot going on in the song and it may be trying to do too much? A lot of things need to go right for this to truly succeed.
Daniel: I worry if Nemo might not be able to keep up with the high energy the song
demands whilst on stage
Jazzi: While I like the mesh of genres some viewers may find it all a little messy or overwhelming which could be a switch off for some voters come May.
Cara: staging will make or break this at esc
Finland Windows95man – No Rules!

Positives
Ben: It is very fun and the artists are 100% commited to the act. It will be a crowd pleaser.
Georgia: This will stand out to viewers on the night if they keep the staging package from UMK, it is definitely a memorable performance.
Daniel: The staging is as bonkers as a song like this one deserves.
Jazzi: There is a lot of artist presence in this you really see both performers being open and being themselves freely on stage and I do really love that. There are elements especially in the live performance of UMK that are really attention drawing and will lead to this getting a decent televote score in May.
Cara: very catchy and brings eurodance with a fun message
Negatives
Ben: The song feels extremely chaotic and the lyrics can seem very nonsensical.
Georgia: Negative – It’s very polarising – either you like it or you don’t. That could make it hard for it to connect with viewers and earn that all important qualification
Daniel: Windows95man is the named artist, but it’s Henri Piispanen who is doing the
heavy lifting. Why write a song for a character that has notes that you can’t sing, meaning
that you need to get someone in to sing it for you?
Jazzi: This song isn’t actually that individual, we have heard a lot of songs of a similar vein in the 90’s and in Eurovision in the 00’s, which leads to another potential issue in that this does to me come across a little dated for 2024. However there is enough good about this that makes me think it will at least reach the final.
Cara: I wish they also credited henri piispanen
Spain Nebulossa – ZORRA

Positives
Ben: The lyrics have a very strong message and it is very easy to sing along with.
Georgia: It has a unique sound that I don’t feel any other song truly parallels. The themes of female empowerment can also resonate with viewers.
Daniel: Not the type of feminist anthem we usually see at the contest, but certainly
the type we need, brilliantly reappropriating a misogynist term into a way to empower
women. ¡Tira la copa!
Jazzi: Nebulossa showed at Benidorm Fest they have great stage presence. Which in term drew the audience’s attention and got them the win in the national final. I also really like the lyrics, which show how society is hypocritical about a man going out and enjoying himself being seen as something that is normal, however if a woman does the same thing society almost frowns down upon it. I really like that the lyrics call out this hypocrisy in our society.
Cara: gets the crowd going, especially chanting “zorra zorra”
Negatives
Ben: One of the translations of the title and this performance probably wont sit well with the more prudish viewers.
Georgia: Like with some of the others in this block, the visuals may make it polarising to viewers – some viewers could be put off if they keep the same staging package from Benidorm Fest.
Daniel: I think the strong meaning will sail over a lot of people’s heads, especially
those who don’t speak Spanish
Jazzi: The melody itself is a tad forgettable and I do feel the song takes a while to really get going, I do enjoy this but it’s not the first song that I would choose to listen to. So I guess what I am trying to say is that while the stage show is attention grabbing I am not sure if the song alone actually is that much.
Cara: do not think as a package it is strong enough for this years comp
Serbia TEYA DORA – RAMONDA

Ben: The melody is gorgeous, and the lyrics feel very artistic.
Georgia: Teya is a great vocalist and with very few slow songs this year, it could stand out among the crowd
Daniel: The juries are going to love this. She has a brilliant voice for big ballad like
this one.
Jazzi: Vocally I think this is stunning, I think the vocals and melody together really build to something quite beautiful towards the end, I also think in a “louder” year something simple, beautiful and ethereal like this has such a place in the final. It also has good chances to stand out among this year’s “louder” entries”
Cara: beautiful vocals with she gets to show off with this song
Negatives
Ben: The track can feel slow at times, and it might struggle to stand out amongst the other ballads.
Georgia: At the same time, with the dreaded #2 slot in the semi-final and surrounded by many uptempo songs in its half, it could get lost in all the noise and struggle to qualify.
Daniel: I wish there were more lyrics! As lovely as the symbolism is I think repeating
“Lila Ramonda” takes up far too much of the song
Jazzi: After the verses this song could be seen as a little repetitive lyrically, which could make a listener lose interest, however I think the melody and instrumental change enough throughout the last minute and a half that this shouldn’t be too off putting to a listener.
Cara: the chorus can get a bit repetitive
