Today the rehearsals for Eurovision 2024 start in Malmö. Countries rehearsing on Day 1 include Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine, Poland and Croatia. The first to rehearse today is Cyprus’ Silia Kapsis.
Silia Kapsis’ first rehearsal
The first to take to the Eurovision 2024 stage at Malmö Arena in Malmö was Cyprus’ Silia Kapsis. Cyprus will be competing in this year’s competition with Silia Kapsis entry “Liar” following CyBC internally selecting her to represent them late last year.
Following Silia’ first rehearsal, a clip of what went on was posted on the official TikTok account of the Eurovision Song Contest. The clip showed Silia before and after she took to the Eurovision stage for the first time, as well as giving us some insight into how well her first rehearsal went.
What did we learn about Cyprus’ staging?

As the official Eurovision live-blog on Reddit notes, the first thing we can tell from Silia’s rehearsal is her amazing stage presence. Dressed in trousers and a sparkly crop top, she serves a energetic, choreographed performance including a big dance break. On stage, Silia is joined by four male backing dancers clad in cargo pants and baggy shirts, which they take off during the final chorus. Colour wise, the graphics are dominated by swirling green and red graphics
What we thought of Cyprus’ first rehearsal
After Cyprus’ first rehearsal, Jazzi gave her initial thoughts on the snippet that we saw.
Who is Silia Kapsis
Silia Kapsis was announced as Cyprus’ representative all the way back in September of 2023. She’s 17, born in Australia to a Cypriot father and Greek mother, and has been performing since she was four years old.
Silia kickstarted her music career when she was 12 years old with her single “Who Am I?”. In 2023 in the lead up to Eurovision Silia then went on to release a further three singles entitled “No Boys Allowed”, “Disco Dancer” and “Night Out”. Silia has also been the lead singer at the Australian Youth Performing Arts Company, which holds events all over Sydney.
“Liar” was written by Eurovision hitmaker Dimitris Kontopoulos, alongside Elke Tiel. “Liar”‘s onstage choreography will be done by Dreamworks and Nickelodeon alums Kelly Sweeney and Guy Groove.
Cyprus’s Eurovision Journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 39 times (32 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
In 2023, CyBC internally selected Andrew Lambrou to represent them in Liverpool with the song “Break A Broken Heart”. During their participation in Liverpool, Andrew qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 12th place with a total of 126 points. The juries gave Cyprus 68 points, whilst the televote awarded Andrew 58 points.
