Ukraine’s 2024 Eurovision entrants alyona alyona and Jerry Heil have announced that they will sell the Eurovision microphone in the event that Ukraine wins the contest in Malmö.
The pair have revealed that they would be using the proceeds to fund efforts to rebuild the education infrastructure in the country. In an interview with Deadline, it was revealed that they would use the proceeds to rebuild a school in Dnipropetrovsk destroyed by Russian bombardment in 2022. This is part of a wider effort by the pair to raise money for Ukrainian school destroyed by war. While in Malmö the pair also performed in a concert turned fashion show that featured collaborative artwork made that afternoon by a series of Ukrainian fashion designers.
This echoes the 2022 Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra who auctioned off their winner’s trophy following their win to help fun the war effort following Russia’s invasion of the country earlier that year. The group managed to sell the trophy for an equivalent of $900,000 dollars and used the proceeds to purchase drones.
