According to a report from RTL Boulevard, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS will decide on participation at Eurovision 2025 in September.
Anouk to return to Eurovision?
The article details the desire of The Netherlands’ 2013 representative Anouk to return to the contest. It reports that she has “a perfect record” for the contest. However, the singer says that she doesn’t know who to send the song to, as “there is no (Eurovision) committee anymore”. AVROTROS contacted Anouk to say that they are happy with her interest. However, nothing can be done yet as no decision regarding participation has been made. In line with a previous statement, AVROTROS stated that in order to participate at Eurovision 2025, they would have to feel like matters have improved regarding the EBU. Therefore, the Dutch broadcaster considers the likelihood of its participation in Switzerland “small”.
The Netherlands’ Eurovision History
The Netherlands are one of the founding countries of the ESC. They performed the very first song ever on the Eurovision stage back in 1956. While the result of “De Vogels van Holland” is unknown, the Netherlands have garnered 5 wins, with their most recent in 2019. However the Netherlands are also known to have had the longest ever non qualification streak in the semi-final era – they missed out on the final a whopping 8 times between 2005 and 2012.
Joost Klein represented the Netherlands in 2024 with the song “Europapa”. While he was ultimately disqualified, he would have made it to the final, placing second in his semifinal with 182 points.
