🇵🇹 Victoria Nicole: “If we don’t believe, who will believe for us?”

Preparations for Junior Eurovision 2024 are in full swing. Tim had the opportunity to interview Portugal’s Junior Eurovision 2024 representative Victoria Nicole, who will be participating in this year’s contest with her entry “Esperança”

Watch our interview with Victoria Nicole here:

During the interview, Tim and Victoria talked about how she got into music, the creation process for “Esperança”, as well as talking about her favorite Eurovision entries.

Who is Victoria Nicole?

Victoria Nicole was born in Venezuela, and her family moved to Portugal in 2018. The 13-year-old won The Voice Kids Portugal this year with a rendition of Barbara Pravi’s “Voilà”, and got started singing because she loved ABBA–so she’s surely a natural fit for the Eurovision family. Victoria also enjoys playing the piano and ukulele, and assisted in the writing of her song “Esperança”.

Victoria Nicole won the right to represent Portugal at Junior Eurovision after triumphing on this year’s edition of The Voice Kids Portugal. Her song “Esperança” was released on 8th October.

Portugal’s Junior Eurovision Journey

Portugal first took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, with Pedro Madeira singing his song “Deixa-me sentir”. At the close of voting, Portugal finished 14th in a field of 15 participants with a total of 22 points. Portugal participated once more in 2007, before taking a 10 year break and returning to the Contest in 2017. Since then, Portugal has participated a total of eight times.

Portugal’s most recent participation came in 2023 when Júlia Machado represented the nation in Nice with song “Where I Belong”. Once the combined scores were revealed, Portugal finished in 13th place with 75 points. 45 of Portugal’s points came from the online vote, whilst the remaining 30 came from professional juries.
