Behind the 6th door on the TES Advent Calendar is…
About “Hallelujah (Christmas on My Lips)”
A Christmas-themed remake of their song “Hallelujah”, “Hallelujah (Christmas on My Lips)” expresses Ben & Tan’s joy at being with the person they love during the holidays. It was released on November 13th, 2020, written by Emil Lei (YES, Love is Forever) , Jimmy Jansson (Tattoo, Break a Broken Heart), Linnea Deb (Heroes, Unforgettable), and Marcus Winther-John (Iron Heart, Summer Nights)
What do we think?
This track contains the same unrestrained joy that characterized Ben & Tan’s Eurovision entry “Yes”- the same unrestrained joy that made me ride or die for this, sadly, now-defunct duo. While extremely similar to the original “Hallelujah”, I prefer the “Christmas on My Lips” version; firstly, I think the Christmassy instrumental works better than the original, and secondly, because the two songs have slightly different messages. The original song is more about wanting to make things official with someone, but the lyric changes made for the Christmas version make the song more about the bliss of a love returned.
Ben & Tan’s Eurovision Journey
Originally put together on season 12 of the Danish edition of X Factor, duo Ben & Tan’s first single “Yes” won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and would have represented Denmark at Eurovision 2020 had the contest not been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They released two more singles, “Hallelujah” and “Summer Nights”, before making a second Eurovision bid in 2021 with the song “Iron Heart”. However, “Iron Heart” was rejected from the selection pool of not only Dansk Melodi Grand Prix but also Melodifestivalen 2021. They haven’t released a single together since.
