Happy Holidays!

Behind the 5th door on the TES Advent Calendar is…

About “i kveld”

I Kveld (Tonight) is a song about people from around the world forgetting their differences at Christmas time, dealing with differences at a later time, and instead seeing each other as merely human. The chorus of the song, repeated three times throughout translates from Norwegian as:

Tonight is a night we’ll forget what separates you from me
All the unresolved things we’ll take later… oh
Now we’re together to be No other place than here
See each other as the human we all are

Erika wrote the song alongside producer HÃ¥kon Guttormsen, who is better known as either HÃ…WK or Han HÃ¥kon. Guttormsen was joined in the production booth by the other side of his duo Han Helge & Han HÃ¥kon, and fellow Northkid member, Helge Moen, who has also written frequently for the likes of Ulrikke, Vidar Villa and Sandra Lyng.

What do we think?

Firstly, if you only know Erika Norwich through her exploits with a giant pink robot, I’m going to have to ask you to change that immediately. Erika’s solo work is vastly different, and in my opinion, vastly superior.

I make my request to listen to Erika’s lovely discography because “i kveld” fits seamlessly into her more moody, Norwegian language back catalogue, whilst still cultivating a distinctly comfy winter feeling. Erika’s solemn sounding voice fits the track like a glove on a winter’s day, especially for a song with such a hopeful meaning.

Oh, and whilst you’re already listening to Erika Norwich, check out I et anna liv – It’s one of my favourite releases of the entire year.

Erika Norwich’s Eurovision Journey

Erika Norwich has twice entered Norway’s Eurovision selection, Melodi Grand Prix. First in 2020, when she participate alongside Thomas Løseth with the song Vertigo, the pair would fail to make it past the first stage of their heat, losing to eventual runner-up Kristin Husøy in their duel.

She would return four years later in 2024, this time accompanied by ‘Super Rob’ – a five meter tall pink anthropomorphic robot voiced by Subwoolfer’s Gaute OrmÃ¥sen. Performing the song “My AI”, the pair qualified from the second semi-final and earned 165 points in the final, earning them 3rd position.
