About “Allir dagar eru jólin með þér”
Released in 2018, Allir dagar eru jólin með þér (Every moment is Christmas with you), the song is an ode to his partner, saying that no matter how enjoyable the season is, it pails into comparison with his love for her, for she makes every moment feel like Christmas.
As with the majority of his music, the song was written and produced entirely by Daði himself. In 2020, he would release an English version of the song, titled Every Moment Is Christmas With You (no surprises there.)
What do we think?
Daði manages to make this clearly a crooning Christmas track without even for a second compromising his superb signature synthy style, and it works fantastically for the track. I really appreciate hearing Icelandic, and (spoilers) it won’t be the last time in the calendar that we do!
Daði Freyr’s Eurovision Journey
Daði Freyr, alongside his on-stage ensemble Gangamagnið first entered Iceland’s Söngvakeppnin in 2017 with “Is This Love?” – Reaching the Superfinal stage before losing to Svala and “Paper”.
He would return to the competition in 2020 – winning with the song “Think About Things” = Which was a favourite to win Eurovision before it was cancelled. Daði & Gagnamagnið were internally selected the following year to compete in Eurovision 2021, where they competed with “10 Years” – but sadly were unable to perform live due to a COVID diagnosis. With a rehearsal clip playing, they finished 4th in Rotterdam.
Daði would finally make the Eurovision stage in 2023 as part of the Liverpool Songbook, performing a version of Atomic Kitten’s “Whole Again”.
