About “When Christmas Calls You Home”

“When Christmas Calls You Home” was released on November 8th 2024 and is about the welcomingness of Christmas. It talks about the joy of reuniting with family during the holiday season. The song isn’t the first Christmas song she has released, with “No Christmas Tears” and “Santa, Can’t You Hear Me” both being released last year.

The song was written by Albin Johnsén (Melodifestivalen 2020, 2025), Christoffer Balazik (Lovad, Emil Assergård) and Mattias Andréasson (Danny Saucedo, Jon Henrik Fjällgren), with Andréasson producing the track.

What do we think?

The song has a homely vibe that links back to the theme of the song. The song feels comforting and shows a different side of Maria Sur. who usually releases more energetic dance music. and seeing this shows the versatility of her style.

Maria’s voice helps set the calming tone of the song which is soft and helps the song feel in unison. It fits perfectly with being a Christmas song not just with its lyrics but with the whole musical package as well.

Maria Sur’s Eurovision Journey

Maria Sur has twice competed in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, debuting in 2023 with “Never Give Up”, which won the second heat in Linköping, and would go on to place 9th in the final. She would return the following year with “When I’m Gone” – again going direkt till final from the second heat on the way to a 7th place finish in the final.
