As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is the United Kingdom, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “What The Hell Just Happened” by Remember Monday.
Our thoughts on “What The Hell Just Happened”
In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “What The Hell Just Happened”
What did the other team members think of “What The Hell Just Happened”?
Molly: This song to me vocally is amazing and how each member of Remember Monday can harmonize in this beautiful manner helps bring the song together. I feel the song does fit in the trendy box and to me doesn’t push the barrier much which may let the UK down with so many songs also taking the popular pop approach this year. The staging can help elevate this song which with the music video has the potential to have a fun staging.
Shiloh: Well, this is something totally different from the UK! While this song does sometimes feel like a total mishmash of two or three distinct songs, that does keep the audience on their toes and hopefully helps the song appeal to everyone. The strong three-part harmonies really give the song a lot of character and hopefully they deliver live as well!
Jonathan: This song feels very musical theatre, which feels a bit of a gamble – the target audience is smaller so it won’t stick with as many people, but on stage it will likely have a huge impact, especially as they are great singers with huge personalities. When I first heard it I had just listened to every song in a row, so hearing it felt like trying to eat a takeaway pizza after enjoying a four-course meal (in a bad way), but coming back to it I’m actually loving it more and more.

United Kingdom’s Eurovision Journey
The UK is one of the most successful countries in the Eurovision Song Contest. Debuting at the second edition of the Contest in 1957, the United Kingdom won the competition on five occasions. The most recent win for the UK was in 1997 with Katrina and the Waves, singing “Love Shine A Light”. The UK also holds the record for second-place finishes – currently at 16.
In 2024, Olly Alexander represented the UK in Malmö with his song “Dizzy”. At the close of voting, the UK finished 18th in a field of 25, earning 46 points. All these points came from the jury.
