As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Sweden, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Bara Bada Bastu” by KAJ.
Our thoughts on “Bara Bada Bastu”
In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “Bara Bada Bastu”
What did the other team members think of “Bara Bada Bastu”?
Kittens: Well. Sometimes you have to go different and when you go different it works out. By far my winner for Melfest this year and you can tell exactly why – it’s a simple but funny concept, and it works out really well. The staging (and I’m sure they’ll find some kind of way to bring that to Basel) is clever and clear, and even without English lyrics, this is exactly the kind of thing that translates well and brings the audience with them. I couldn’t be happier with this choice – and I hope it shows Sweden that bringing more identity to the competition is not a bad idea at all.
Molly: Fun, This song is just pure fun and so different compared to what Melfest have sent in the past. I love this song in both style and vocals. The energy of the performance is just infectious. The song is so catchy it can easily get stuck in someone’s head. This song if all goes well will have a major advantage within Eurovision. I am excited to see how the staging will translate over to Basel.
Euan: In a year of ‘fun’ entries this one does stand out head and shoulders above the rest. While it isn’t necessary to have before Basel, the fact that this has a completely finished ‘package’ that compliments the song so well is a great boon for SVT, because we already know that visually it’s one of the best songs we’ve got this year. While being in Finno-Swedish, the humour and fun energy still translate so well.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey
In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2024, Sweden were represented on home soil by Marcus and Martinus. As the host entry, their song “Unforgettable” did not need to compete in the semi-finals. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 174 points. 125 points were received by the juries, while the twins received 49 points by televoters.
