Ahead of their performance at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Rory was able to have a chat with Tautumeitas. They are representing Latvia at the Contest with their entry “Bur man laimi”.

Together, Rory and Tautumeitas chat about their rehearsals and how they felt stepping onto the Eurovision stage. They also touch on bringing Latvian folklore back to an international audience, and the inspiration behind the darker staging they adopted for Basel. They even teach Rory how to do some of their iconic dance moves from their Supernova performance!
Who are Tautumeitas?
Tautumeitas are a six-piece world/folk group, first formed in 2015. The band rose to fame when competing in the Latvian version of The X Factor in 2017, where the band ultimately finished in fourth place. The band released their first album one year later to critical acclaim.
The band is made up of Annemarija Moiseja (vocals, percussion), Asnate Rancāne (vocals, violin), Aurēlija Rancāne (vocals, drums), Gabriēla Zvaigznīte (vocals), Kate Slišāne (vocals, mandolin, clarinet) and Laura Marta Līcīte (vocals, violin, percussion).
Tautumeitas will participate at Eurovision 2025 with “Bur man laimi”, which was written the band themselves.
Latvia’s Eurovision journey
Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.
Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Dons, who performed “Hollow”. The song qualified from the semi-final. This is the country’s first qualification since 2016. In the Grand Final Dons finished in 16th with 64 points. Of these points 26 were from the public vote, and 38 were from the national juries.
