🇨🇾 Sophia Patsalides rumoured to be one of the candidates to represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2026

Greek-Cypriot artist Sophia Patsalides, who represented Cyprus at Junior Eurovision 2014, is among the talents proposed by record labels to CyBC as a potential representative for Eurovision 2026 in Vienna.

From Junior Star to Eurovision Prospect

Sophia Patsalides earned her early acclaim with “I pio omorfi mera” at Junior Eurovision 2014, earning 9th place. Since then, she released her debut album, Everything I Ever Wanted and several singles. She also co-wrote “Crystal Waters”, Cyprus’s entry for Junior Eurovision 2024, which topped Spotify Greece’s Viral chart. One of her songs, “Erase Your Heart”, was shortlisted for Greece’s Eurovision 2025 national final.

At just 24 years old and with a musical education from Leeds College of Music, she brings both experience and fresh potential to the discussion, making her one of the strongest candidates so far.

CyBC confirmed participation in Eurovision 2026 as early as August, but still hasn’t revealed the selection method. Cyprus has relied on internal selections since 2016, with the last televised national final held in 2015. Whether CyBC will continue internally or return to a public selection remains to be seen.

Cyprus’ Eurovision journey

The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where the Island participated with the song “Monika” and placed 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 40 times (33 of which were in the Grand Final).

For 2025, CyBC internally selected Theo Evan to represent them in Basel with the song “Shh”. Competing in the first semi-final, Cyprus failed to qualify for the final, finishing in 11th place with 44 points. This was the first time since 2022 that Cyprus had not been in a Eurovision final.
