A couple of weeks after the submissions for Sweden’s Eurovision 2026 selection, Melodifestivalen closed, it did not take long for local media to speculate who would participate in next year’s competition. Kicking off the rumour-mill this season is FELICIA, who has just released her debut single “Black Widow”
A new name, but not a newcomer to Mello
Felicia Eriksson (known professionally as FELICIA) has participated in Melodifestivalen previously. However, she did not participate as FELICIA, but as Fröken Snusk, which is a music project created by Swedish songwriter and producer Rasmus Gozzi. With her entry “UNGA & FRIA”, Fröken managed to make it to the controversial Finalkval round of competition, where she was eliminated, despite having the same points as Jay Smith (who went on to the final) when the final votes were awarded.
Since Mello, FELICIA (as Fröken) went on to win Masked Singer Sverige 2024, but nearly a year later, FELICIA was replaced by another singer in the Fröken Snusk project, with FELICIA going on to be a solo artist, where she collaborated with fellow Mello alum Darin.
Ahead of the release of her debut single “Black Widow”, FELICIA signed with ‘Warner Music Sweden‘, which is home to notable Mello participants, including reigning champions KAJ.
SVT is set to reveal the names of the participants of Melodifestivalen 2026 later in the year.
Sweden’s Eurovision Journey
In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2025, Sweden were represented by Finnish group KAJ, singing “Bara bada bastu”. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 321 points, finishing in 4th place. 126 points were received by the juries, while the trio received 195 points by televoters.
