Moldova’s national broadcaster TRM has held a consultation on a potential return to Eurovision next year. It comes after Moldova had withdrawn from the Contest midway through its national selection.

Consultation held with local artists

In a press release uploaded to its website, TRM confirmed that a consultation had been held with local artists regarding the potential for a return to the Contest in 2026. Notable artists in attendance were the Sunstroke Project, who represented Moldova in 2010 and 2017, scoring Moldova’s best ever result.

The format of the debates revolved around the way the national selection was carried out, as well as potential changes to the rules of its national final – Etapa Naลฃionalฤƒ. Other matters were also discussed, including the potential promote artists better and how to support acts on their Eurovision journey. Artists also raised their concerns on the creative process and how to improve the conduct of the national selection.

Despite the positive signals that came from the meeting, TRM was quick to clarify a decision on participation at Eurovision 2026 has not been made. The broadcaster added that consultations will continue to be held with artists and producers to establish a position that best represents the artistic landscape.

Return from withdrawal

At the time, the broadcaster opted to withdraw following the broadcaster’s concerns on the quality of songs submitted. However, TRM said that they would be making a return to the competition as soon as possible.

Moldova’s Eurovision journey

Moldova is relatively new to the Eurovision Song Contest, joining in 2005. Their debut entry, Zdob ศ™i Zdub, finished in 6th place, which had remained their highest scoring entry up until 2017. They were dethroned by returners Sunstroke Project and the song โ€˜Hey Mammaโ€™, which finished in 3rd place. At the close of voting, Moldova received 374 points.
