Submissions have opened for 2026’s edition of Sámi Grand Prix, which will be held at the start of the Sámi Easter Festival on 28th March.

Submission Details

Submissions are open for both songs and joiks for next year’s competition, and as with previous years the rules require that all songs and joiks must be original compositions that have not been published previously, and all performers must be at least 16 years old.

Applications are open until 26th February, and those interested can apply on the Sámi Easter Festival website.

What is Sámi Grand Prix?

Sámi Grand Prix is an annual music and joik competition for the indigenous Sámi people, held in Kautokeino/Guovdageaidnu alongside the traditional Sámi Easter Festival. It features two distinct sections, a modern song competition, and a traditional joik (also spelt yoik) competition, with a winner being chosen from either side of the competition. The winners from 2025 were OSCAAL with “Sávrrimus” in the joik section and Piera Eira ft. Máijá with “Dálkkkiid Čađa” in the songs section.

The contest is broadcast as a partnership between NRK, SVT and Yle.
