Once again, Cyprus has the honour of kicking off the season, as Cypriot broadcaster CyBC announces that Antigoni will be their representative at Eurovision 2026.
Who is Antigoni?
Antigoni grew up in London but has preserved her deep Greek-Cypriot heritage and speaks Greek fluently. She first gained widespread recognition after appearing on the British reality show Love Island UK. Most recently, on October 27, she performed as the opening act for Eleni Foureira’s concert in London.
This isn’t Antigoni’s first Eurovision-related venture. She submitted songs for Greece’s selection in 2023 and 2025, and had publicly expressed her desire to represent Cyprus earlier in the year.
Cyprus’ Eurovision journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where the Island participated with the song “Monika” and placed 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 40 times (33 of which were in the Grand Final).
For 2025, CyBC internally selected Theo Evan to represent them in Basel with the song “Shh”. Competing in the first semi-final, Cyprus failed to qualify for the final, finishing in 11th place with 44 points. This was the first time since 2022 that Cyprus had not been in a Eurovision final.
