🇱🇻 DABA: “We gathered and thought, what is the problem that is hard to talk about?”

Supernova 2026 dates are set for January and February,but the preparation for Latvia’s selection for Eurovision 2026 is in full swing. Tetiana was able to speak with DABA (Deniels Bērziņš) who is set to compete in the Semi final 1 with his song “Panic Attack”.

In the new interview, DABA shares the story of how “Panic Attack” was created, reveals the meaning of the lyrics, tells about what being and artist and making music means to him and even creates staging on the spot. He also shouts out his favorite Latvian Eurovision songs and tells how Måneskin are an inspiration for him.

Who is DABA?

DABA (Deniels Bērziņš) is a singer-songwriter and designer from Riga. An up-and-coming singer in the country, he has already released four songs in his career. Known for the songs “Gribu mājās” (I Want to Go Home) and “Istabā” (In the Room), listeners know him as a lyricist who shares personal reflections and blends them with the unfiltered emotions, alternative, indie-pop, and electronic elements. His new song – “Panic Attack” he created in a collab with Tomasz Kamiński and Santa Paula Mata of Honey Blue during a songwriting camp in Riga.

Latvia’s Eurovision journey

Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.

Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Tautumeitas, who performed “Bur man laimi”. Latvia successfully qualified from the second semi-final for the second year in a row. In the Grand Final, Tautumeitas finished in 13th place with 158 points. Of these points, 42 were from the public vote, and 116 were from the national juries.
