What is Eurovision Asia?
The event will be available for international viewers to watch via Eurovision’s YouTube channel. The winner of Eurovision Asia will be able to perform at Eurovision 2027. He stated that he hoped more Asian countries would join the current 10. Eurovision Asia was an idea since 2008; however, it had been held back due to repeated delays and was then cancelled.
The contest will take place in November 2026, with 10 countries participating. The contest will take place in Bangkok, Thailand. The countries confirmed to take part are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. Each country has also confirmed that it will hold its own national selection to choose an act to take part in Eurovision Asia, similar to the national selections that countries like Lithuania and Sweden host.
The idea then also resurfaced in 2016 and 2022; however, they will both ultimately shut down, and now Eurovision Asia has come back now stronger than ever. Martin Green says that this addition had been in production for 2 years and that Asian broadcasters insisted that the show include the Eurovision name in the title.
Eurovision Asia is finally planned
Eurovision Song Contest Asia has been in development for several years, but this marks the first official confirmation of a launch timeline and host city.
