Kazakhstan is considering taking part in the first edition of Eurovision Song Contest Asia, with the country’s Ministry of Culture confirming that the possibility is currently under review.
Participation under consideration
According to Tengri News, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Culture and Information has received an official approach regarding participation in Eurovision Asia 2026, which is set to take place in November in Bangkok, Thailand.
The request was addressed to national broadcaster Khabar Agency by Stephen Laslocky, Vice President of Media Partners Asia, representing Voxovation Inc., the company holding the production and distribution rights for the Asian version of the contest.
In response, the Ministry stated that while Eurovision is recognised as an important international platform for cultural exchange and promotion, a final decision on Kazakhstan’s participation has not yet been made, with financial considerations still under evaluation.
Eurovision Asia takes shape
Eurovision Song Contest Asia is set to debut on 14 November 2026 in Bangkok. The contest will feature a single final, with the winner decided through a combination of jury and public voting.
So far, ten countries have confirmed their participation, including Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines and Vietnam, with more expected to join in the coming months.
The project has been in development for several years, with earlier plans delayed before being revived and officially confirmed in 2026.
Kazakhstan and Eurovision
Kazakhstan has shown consistent interest in the Eurovision format in recent years, as the country has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2018.
It has also explored the possibility of joining the main Eurovision Song Contest, although it is not currently eligible to compete as a full member of the European Broadcasting Union.
While discussions around Eurovision Song Contest participation remain ongoing, Eurovision Asia could offer Kazakhstan an alternative route into the wider Eurovision brand.
Eurovision Asia is finally planned
Eurovision Song Contest Asia has been in development for several years, but this marks the first official confirmation of a launch timeline and host city.
With more countries expected to be announced and national selections likely to begin in the coming months, the 2026 contest could represent a major milestone in the global expansion of the Eurovision brand.
