San Marino has confirmed it will be taking part in next year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
San Marino Song Contest success responsible
Despite the fact that Senhit and Boy George had failed to qualify for the final in Vienna, San Marino’s tourism secretary Federico Pedini Amati confirmed that plans were already being put in place for setting up the San Marino Song Contest in 2027.
Meanwhile, Roberto Sergio, acting as the Director-General of RTV San Marino confirmed that they were already starting plans for the next edition of the San Marino Song Contest. He explained of the non-qualification:
It’s a shame because it was an extraordinary performance. Among other things, social media went crazy with positive reviews for the song, for how Senhit and Boy George performed it.
Some songs were submitted that, at least from my point of view, were unthinkable. But these are competitions, and since there’s a mixed system, with juries and popular vote, evidently ten countries outnumbered San Marino. We’re still very satisfied, because it was an extraordinary experience.
We had incredible numbers, and the San Marino brand has spread throughout Europe and beyond, the world. This is an absolute value we should be proud of , and we’ll try again. Competitions are designed to win and, sometimes, also lose. This time it didn’t go well, but we’re sure we’ll make up for it.
Will we be back to work tomorrow ? “Certainly. Media Evolution will resume with the selections for the 2027 edition and we will organize an extraordinary performance because I believe that a country like San Marino, which has a strong international vocation, must continueย ย on this path. It’s a virtuous path that is expanding its borders, and we are proud and happy about this.
San Marino’s Eurovision journey
As one of the smallest countries in Europe, San Marino made its debut in the competition in 2008 with Miodio and the song โCompliceโ. Since then they have participated in the competition 14 times, qualifying for the grand final in three. Their best result was in 2019, with Serhat and โSay Na Na Naโ.
Eurovision alum Senhit returned to represent San Marino in 2026 with her song “Superstar” – accompanied by 80s legend Boy George. Performing in the first semi-final, San Marino failed to qualify for the final, eventually finishing in 14th place with 41 points. Of these, 23 points came from the televote and the remaining 18 came from the jury.
