Maltas’s Eurovision 2025 participant Miriana Conte and MESC 2026 contestant Mychael Bartolo Chircop have teamed up for a new collaboration. The song, titled “WHAT THE HELENA?” is out now.
About “WHAT THE HELENA?”
Two of the biggest names in recent editions of Malta’s MESC national final have a new collaboration. Miriana Conte and Mychael Bartolo Chircop have teamed up on new single “WHAT THE HELENA?”. The song is an intriguing dance pop track, featuring an instantly catchy chorus. The song is rocky, sexy, pop that will leave you saying “WHAT THE HELENA?” for hours after first listening.
The track perfectly blends Mychael’s deep, rockier vocals with Miriana’s pop/dance sound. Their voices compliment each other incredibly well, showing off both of their talents. While promoting the song on Instagram, the duo teased a potential live performance of the song together, and cheekily hinted at the possibility of a joint MESC appearance in future. Whether that comes to fruition, or is just to tease fans its yet to be seen. But Mychael is certainly one to watch for future MESC editions if his track record so far is anything to go by.
The single was written by Miriana and Mychael themselves, alongside Peter Borg. Borg is a producer and lyricist who has worked with Miriana before on tracks like “NAPOLETANA” and “NOKIA”, as well as being credited on AIDAN’s newest album “Cowboys Don’t Cry”. Matt Muxu Mercieca also features on the list of songwriters for “WHAT THE HELENA?”. Mercieca provided lyrics for Miriana’s MESC and Eurovision entry “SERVING KANT” / “SERVING” as well as her previous MESC entry “Venom”. He has also written for Greece’s Evangelia, providing lyrics for her recent national final entry “PARÉA”.

Who are Miriana Conte & Mychael Bartolo Chircop?
Miriana Conte
Miriana Conte is a 26 year old singer and songwriter, born and raised in Malta. The singer has a long history with music competitions, having entered X Factor Malta on two occasions and performed in 5 editions of the Maltese national final for Eurovision. She debuted in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC) in 2017 with the song “Don’t Look Down” which finished in last place in the selection. She returned as a contestant in the 2018 edition of MESC with the song “Rocket”. Here, she eventually placed 12th.
In 2022, Miriana recorded her best result so far in the MESC, placing 6th in the national final with the song “Look What You’ve Done Now”. The singer made her fourth appearance in MESC with the track “Venom” in 2024, placing ninth overall.
During the run up to the 2025 Eurovision Contest, held in Basel, Miriana was announced as one of the competing acts in MESC 2025 with the song “Serving Kant”. Miriana won the selection with “Serving Kant”, scoring 182 points in the final, and was therefore chosen as the Maltese Eurovision participant. Following a complaint from an unconfirmed broadcaster, the EBU requested the word “Kant” be removed from the song. This decision faced backlash in Malta, including from Maltese broadcaster PBS, with some labelling the move as discriminatory towards the Maltese language. Nevertheless, Miriana represented Malta with the song “SERVING”, a slightly changed version of “Serving Kant”. At the close of play in voting, Miriana placed 17th, with 91 points. 83 of these points came from the juries, and only 8 were awarded from the televote.
Conte returned to the Eurovision stage in Vienna, in 2026, as a Grand Final interval act. She performed in the mash-up of Eurovision hits medley, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the contest.
Mychael Bartolo Chircop
Mychael Bartolo Chircop is an 18 year old singer, pianist and songwriter from Malta. The young musician appeared twice in the Maltese selection for Junior Eurovision. He placed both 2nd and 3rd in the Junior selection, but just missed out on appearing in the Junior Contest. He made his debut in MESC 2026, with the song “My Sweet Angel”. At the close of voting in MESC 2026, Mychael placed third behind only Matt Blxck and eventual winner Aidan. An impressive finish for a debutant in the Contest.
Following the success of “My Sweet Angel”, the singer released his second single “DANCING ON THE FLOOR” earlier in the year. He also appeared as a headliner at the Isle Of MTV Malta music festival.
Malta’s Eurovision history
Malta made its Eurovision debut in 1971, with Joe Grech performing “Marija I-Maltija” (Maria the Maltese Lass), finishing 18th with 52 points. Malta did not participate in Eurovision from 1975 until 1991, when they returned with the song “Could It Be” by Paul Giordimaina and Georgina, finishing 12th with 32 points. Since then, Malta has been at every Eurovision and finished in the top 10 an impressive 12 times. Their best result so far in the Contest is second place. Malta has achieved the silver medal twice. The first time was in 2002, when Ira Losco sang “7th Wonder,” and the second time in 2005 with Chiara’s “Angel.”
AIDAN represented Malta in 2026 with his song “Bella”, the first Eurovision to feature Maltese in 54 years. Competing in the second semi-final, Malta qualified, with AIDAN eventually finishing in 18th place, earning a total of 89 points. Of these, 81 came from the juries, while just 8 came from televoters – the same number of public points Miriana received the previous year.
