🇦🇹 COSMÓ releases new single “RUNTERSPÜLEN”

Fresh from performing on home soil at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, Austrian singer-songwriter COSMÓ has released his latest single. “RUNTERSPÜLEN” comes ahead of COSMÓ’s upcoming debut album, “LIEBER TRÄUM ICH WEITER”, due September 25th. The single is COSMÓ’s first release since performing in the Eurovision Grand Final in Vienna.

About “RUNTERSPÜLEN”

Austria’s Eurovision 2026 host entrant COSMÓ has released a new single. “RUNTERSPÜLEN” is the singer’s first release since performing on home soil at the Contest in Vienna. The track is a big piano ballad, with an electro-pop chorus. The song builds as it progresses through the verses and choruses, from a calm, piano beginning to a huge anthem sound towards the end of the track. The song is completely in the German language, like COSMÓ’s Eurovision entry “TANZSCHIEN”.

“RUNTERSPÜLEN” comes ahead of COSMÓ’s upcoming debut album, “LIEBER TRÄUM ICH WEITER”, due September 25th. Loosely translated into English, “RUNTERSPÜLEN” is a germanic phrase used to mean to wash or flush down. The phrase is used when using liquid to wash food or pills down your throat, or to flush something away with water. The track is incredibly personal and emotional from COSMÓ, and sees the singer in a different light to his Eurovision entry.

The track was written by COSMO, real name Benjamin Gideon, alongside Markus Perner. Production on the song comes from Markus and Patrick Kummeneker who have collaborated with COSMÓ previously. COSMÓ will be touring Austria and Germany throughout October 2026.

Who is COSMÓ?

COSMÓ is the stage name of Benjamin Gedeon, a 20-year-old singer born in Budapest, Hungary. Growing up on the Austrian-Hungarian border, he became invested in music as a child, learning how to play the piano at the age of four. He wrote his first song when he began to take singing lessons at 13. In 2020, Benjamin auditioned for The Voice Kids Germany, but was eliminated in the second round. He gained recognition in 2022, when he returned to the German version of The Voice Kids, this time reaching the final under the guidance of Alvaro Soler. After this, he began to lean into various genres, exploring his personal musical style.

Ahead of the Austrian national selection for Eurovision 2026, he adopted the moniker ‘COSMÓ’. He entered the national final Vienna Calling – Wer singt für Österreich?, with the song “Tanzschein”. The track was written by Benjamin himself, alongside Elias Stejskal and Ella Stern.

COSMÓ’s Eurovision journey

For the 2026 Contest, Austria was the host nation, following JJ’s win in the 2025 Contest with “Wasted Love”. Austrian broadcaster ORF brought back the national final format to select their host entrant. COSMÓ placed first in the Vienna Calling – Wer singt für Österreich? national final. COSMÓ would represent the nation on home soil with his song “Tanzschein” for the 70th anniversary edition of the Contest.

Being the host country, Austria automatically qualified for the final. The running order spot for “Tanzchein” was selected out of a hat in early 2026, with COSMÓ performing last in the Grand Final. COSMÓ would ultimately finish in 24th place with 6 points. One point came from the jury while another five came from the televote.
