Melodifestivalen has revealed the two hosts of the next edition of Sweden’s biggest music TV show! Oscar Zia will be returning to the hosting role alongside Björn Kjellman, who makes his Melfest hosting debut.
Oscar Zia and Björn Kjellman will host Melfest 2027
Sweden’s biggest music TV show, and the selection process through which the country picks its Eurovision entry, has revealed who will be hosting the next edition! Swedish actor Björn Kjellman will be making his debut as a host of the show while Oscar Zia makes a return to hosting duties.
Oscar has taken part in Mello as both a host, and a contestant in previous editions. Making his debut back in 2013, Zia first took part as a backing vocalist for Behrang Miri and the song “Jalla Dansa Sawa”. The singer and actor made his solo debut the following year with the entry “Yes We Can”, reaching 8th in the 2014 Melfest Final. In 2016, Oscar came second in the contest overall, with his song “Human”, narrowly missing out on a win. He returned to the Mello stage as a co-host of 2021’s Heat 2, alongside Christer Björkman and Anis Don Demina. For the 2022 edition of Mello, Oscar was revealed as host ahead of the competition, with Farah Abadi joining him as co-host in the Final.
Although Kjellman hasn’t hosted Melodifestivalen previously, the actor and performer has participated as a contestant, back in the 2006 edition. Björn made the final of the competition in 2006 with the song “Älskar du livet”, placing 9th at the end of voting. The actor also played a Melodifestivalen-obsessed superfan in the 2000 movie Livet är en schlager, so we are in more than capable hands!
The “most fun assignment”
Speaking about his Melodifestivalen hosting debut, Björn said:
If you’ve devoted so much unnatural time to Melodifestivalen and Eurovision as I have, in the nerdiest of nerdy ways, this is obviously the most fun assignment you can get. And to do it with such a smart and funny guy like Oscar is perfect. I really love the guy. Getting to host Sweden’s biggest and most entertaining TV show—well, it’s simply an honour.
Oscar also shared his excitement at returning to the Mello stage:
It feels wonderful to be back! I love Mello, and it feels fun and reassuring to have Björn by my side. I’m really looking forward to hanging out with the viewers again and guiding them through Sweden’s biggest TV party.
Sweden’s Eurovision Journey
In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).
In 2026, Sweden were represented by FELICIA, singing “My System”. At the close of voting in the grand final, she had received 51 points, finishing in 20th place. 35 points were given by the juries, while she received 16 points by televoters.
