Following the 2026 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest hosted by Austria in Vienna, the Austrian broadcaster ORF has confirmed participation in the 2027 contest. ORF announced Austria will compete in the contest due to be held in Bulgaria in May.
ORF confirms participation
Today (September 1) ORF has opened submissions in the search for its representative for Bulgaria, with submissions closing on September 18.
Applications should include:
- One or more meaningful songs or demos
- Information on previous musical works and live experiences
- Contact details and links to website and social media channels
ORF will internally select its representative, with selected acts being invited to castings and interviews.
Austria’s Eurovision journey
In 1957, Austria made their debut into the Eurovision Song Contest, where Bob Martin represented the landlocked nation with the song “Wohin, kleines Pony?”. At the close of voting, it managed to place 10th overall. Since their debut, Austria has participated 56 times (being in the final 49 times), and – before 2025 – had won the competition on two occasions in 1966 and 2014.
In 2026, Austria selected COSMÓ to represent the nation on home soil with “Tanzschein”. The host nation held a national final for the first time since their 2016 edition of “Wer Singt Für Österrich?”. Being the host country, Austria automatically qualified for the final – where COSMÓ would ultimately finish in 24th place with 6 points. One point came from the jury while another five came from the televote.
