Norwegian folk-rock band and Eurovision 2024 representatives GÃ¥te have released their latest single “Mi Jord”. The track is the third single to come from the band’s upcoming album “Sigil”.
About “Mi Jord”
Norway’s Eurovision 2024 representatives GÃ¥te have released their latest single “Mi Jord”. The song is a big, folk-rock track with soaring vocals and heavy guitars. The band describe the new single as “a Norwegian folk-rock meditation on the earth withdrawing on its own currents, carried by hurdy-gurdy, mandola, and austere electronic texture”.
The lyrics, when translated into English, read:
A wind sweeps in from the south
She breathes her sorrow across the shallows
Then comes a gust from the north
Swirling like sea sparkle on the fjords
From the east a draft over wide lands
Digs deep furrows in the white sand
One final breath as she slipped away
Faded into the heavens with the northwind
This latest single “Mi Jord” is the third track to be released from GÃ¥te’s upcoming album “Sigil”, due September 25th. The new single was written by the band themselves, and is released on the European Season of Mist music label. GÃ¥te are playing numerous shows in Norway throughout October and November and more information about upcoming dates can be found on their website.

Who are GÃ¥te?
The band GÃ¥te was founded in 1999 by the Sundli siblings. GÃ¥te combine traditional Norwegian folk and explosive, progressive rock in their music, and found rapid success in a relatively short amount of time after first forming. Between 2001 and 2006 the band released two studio albums, two EPs and a live album, and performed countless live shows in and around Norway. GÃ¥te won the Norwegian Grammy for Best New Artist in 2002.
Following a 12 year hiatus, GÃ¥te returned to music in 2017. The band now consists of Gunnhild Sundli, Magnus Børmark, Jon Even Schärer, Mats Paulsen and John Stenersen. While the lineup of the band has changed over the years, GÃ¥te’s focus on blending traditional Norwegian folk and spiritual music with progressive rock has not.
GÃ¥te’s Eurovision history
The band GÃ¥te entered the 2024 edition of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix national final with their song “Ulveham”. After beating Eurovision superstars KEiiNO to win Melodi Grand Prix in 2024, GÃ¥te won the right to represent their county at the Contest in Malmö.
GÃ¥te performed in the second of the Semi-Finals at the Contest in Sweden, and qualified for the Grand Final. On the Saturday Grand Final in 2024, Norway would place 25th with GÃ¥te, coming last place in of the 25 performing acts. The band would receive 16 points, 12 of which came from the jury, and 4 were awarded by the televote.
