Fresh from placing third at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Alexandra Căpitănescu has this week released her debut album. The record, which shares its name with her 2026 Eurovision entry “Choke Me”, is the first full length album from the Romanian musician and her band.

About “Choke Me”

Alexandra Căpitănescu, who represented Romania in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, has released her debut album “Choke Me”. The album, which shares its name with the Romanian 2026 Eurovision entry, is the debut full length record from Alexandra and her band. “Choke Me” features recently released singles “CMYM” and “HEAT”, alongside the title track, and 6 new songs.

Much like the Eurovision entry “Choke Me”, from Alexandra and her band, the new album is a blend of genres, mixing modern metal with electronica and elements of operatic vocals from Alexandra. New tracks “UTOPIA” and “GUILTY” have a huge, sing-a-long, arena rock feel, while “I NEED YOU”, “HEAL” and “HOLLOW HEART” lean more into the personal, slightly alt-metal side of Alexandra. All the tracks on the record, however, have huge energy behind them, and plenty of metal guitar riffs and drum licks. As a complete record, “CHOKE ME” is an amazing collection of personal and captivating rock songs.

Before the release of the record, Alexandra took to her instagram to explain the personal and raw nature of the songs:

Ain’t it crazy to name an album “CH*KE ME”? It’s provocative and deeply personal, just like the songs on it… from vulnerability to power…turning every pain, every feeling, every uncomfortable truth into music. It’s been a healing process. Spending hours in the studio digging up buried feelings, confronting the things that were still hurting, and turning them into something I could finally let go of. And I wasn’t alone in it. I was challenged, and supported by my boys Bogdan Stoican, Luca Sofron, Thomas C and Mefiu throughout the whole process. This album is a piece of US. A piece of YOU. A completely honest mess. Now make it yours!

The record is released on the Universal Music Romania label. Alexandra Căpitănescu and her band are currently on a European tour, with shows already played in London and Manchester. Future dates of the “Here to Obey Me” tour will visit Sofia, Helsinki, Warsaw, Stockholm, Berlin and Amsterdam. Alexandra Căpitănescu’s Eurovision journey

In 2026, Romania returned to the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time since 2023. The Romanian broadcaster would once again use the national selection, Selecția Națională, to pick the country’s Eurovision entrant for the Contest in Vienna. The result was decided by a 100% jury vote, with Alexandra Căpitănescu and the song “Choke Me” taking the win.

Performing at the second semi-final in Vienna, Romania managed to qualify for the Grand Final. At the close of voting in the final, “Choke Me” finished in third place, scoring 296 points. 64 points came from the international juries, and 232 were awarded by the public televote. This equalled Romania’s best ever placement at the Contest, having achieved bronze twice before, in 2005 and in 2010.
