RTL has narrowed down twelve acts to proceed to the workshop stage of the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027 following a long weekend of eighty acts auditioning to become Luxembourg’s representative for Eurovision 2027.
Eleven new faces and one returnee advance
In a press release by RTL twelve acts were invited last Sunday, October 18th to RTL City to receive the information of advancing to the next round. The third and final stage will pair up the pre-selected artists with songs that match their style. The final artist lineup will be announced mid-November.
Among the eighty acts were several returnees as RTL mentioned in their previous press release. They’ve confirmed an increase of applications with over 70% of applicants being Luxembourgish citizens. 20% held citizen rights in the country, while the remaining 10% claimed cultural connection to the country.
The twelve acts still in the running only include one returnee, LSC 2026 participant Hugo One. All other acts are new names including: Maya Maunet, Perrine Thomas, Carmen Luisa, KIM, Gaïa, Patricia Venâncio, Debbie M, Jaya, Marco Misolic, Clement Lerat and Layso Roy.
Pairing-Workshop in November
During the month of November the selected acts will be involved in the creative process of matching songs with their artistry. Up until October 29th songs can still be submitted to RTL.
Elisabeth Conter, the leading project manager of ESC Lëtzebuerg added that the re-structured process of allowing cover songs for a first performance has resulted in a lot of new faces. Now they’re getting aligned with the song submissions.
All phases are mentored and monitored by Eurovision experts.
Luxembourg’s Eurovision journey
Luxembourg made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les Amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Apart from 1959 Luxembourg participated in every edition up until 1993. With their return in 2024 Luxembourg returned after a 31-year absence from the Contest. Last year’s artist Eva Marija represented Luxembourg with her entry “Mother Nature” but failed to qualify for the final making it Luxembourg’s first non-qualification. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983.
