🎃🎶 Eurovision new music round-up 31st October

[Top row L-R] KAJ, Remember Monday, DARA, ADONXS. [Bottom row L-R] JIVA, Satoshi, FELICIA, MELOVIN & Lama

If you want to jump straight to a specific section, here’s a list of pages, each filled to the brim with excellent music:

Previous national final artists

🇫🇮 Benjamin – “Ilmasta tehtyjä (Vain elämää)”

Benjamin became somewhat of a fan favourite in the 2023 edition of Finlands UMK national final. The electro-gay-pop artist entered the show with his high energy, electro-dance track “Hoida Mut”, and despite only finishing 7th in the selection, the song had huge commercial success in Finland. The musician returned to the UMK national final the following year to host the show, alongside Pilvi Hämäläinen and Viivi Pumpanen. During the show, he took to the stage as an interval performer alongside fellow 2023 UMK artist KUUMAA, performing a mashup of their previous year’s entries. Benjamin is currently taking part in Finland’s Vain elämää TV show, and this week takes on the music of Samuli Putro, with Benjamin releasing “Ilmasta tehtyjä”. This is a great version of the song from Benjamin, showing a slightly different side to the singer.

Vain elämää (meaning ‘It’s only life’ in Finnish) is a popular Finnish reality music television series, where a group of well-known Finnish musicians live and record music together. Each show features the music of a specific member of the group, with the original artist listening and reacting to the new interpretations of their song. The final episode usually features duets or group performances. The show is an adaptation of the Dutch format De beste zangers van Nederland. The title of the show comes from the classic 1973 song “Vain elämää” by legendary Finnish singer Irwin Goodman. The show premiered in 2012, and has become one of Finland’s most successful and longest-running reality television programs, spanning numerous seasons and featuring dozens of Finland’s top recording artists. This week, the musical theme came from the hits of prominent Finnish singer, songwriter, and film score composer Samuli Putro.

🇪🇸 Lérica – “La escalera de la rumba – Vol. 1”

Spanish pop duo Lérica took part in the 2024 Benidorm Fest national selection, with their song “Astronauta”. Following recent singles “Kisiera Yo Saber” and “Sin Miedo A Nada”, the duo have released the first part of their upcoming full length album, in the form of the “La escalera de la rumba – Vol. 1”.  This is an exciting collection of soulful, romantic Spanish tunes.

🇸🇪 Kadiatou – “Yeah, I know”

Swedish pop singer Kadiatou participated in Melodifestivalen 2021 with her song “One Touch”, but failed to qualify for the Melfest Final. The singer had previously competed in Sweden’s music competition show Idols, in 2018, where she made the final and eventually placed second. Kadiatou is back this week with an intense, dark electro-pop track “Yeah, I know”. This is a really great, fresh sounding track, with a bold sound.

🇮🇸 CeaseTone – “Lagið um skerið”

CeaseTone, real name Hafsteinn Þráinsson, entered Icelands Songvakeppnin in 2024 with the song “Ró” and its English language sibling “Flow”. He was unfortunately unable to reach the final of the national selection that year. Outside of his attempt to represent Iceland at Eurovision as a performer, CeaseTone is a well-known producer and musician in the Icelandic music scene, and is a close collaborator and friend of Daði Freyr, who represented Iceland at Eurovision in 2020 and 2021. This week, CeaseTone releases new track “Lagið um skerið”. The song is a fun, country-pop track full of guitars.

🇮🇹 Alfa – “Eri solo da incontrare”

Alfa made his debut as a competing artist in the Festival di Sanremo in 2024, with the country-pop/rap track “Vai!”. He was unable to make it to the final 5 of the competitive music festival, but has found success across Europe in recent years. Rumours in the Italian music press suggest that Alfa could make a possible return to the Sanremo stage for the festival in 2027, although nothing official has been confirmed at the time of writing. After a number of singles and features on other Italian tracks in recent months, Alfa has released the “Eri solo da incontrare” single this week. The romantic track went somewhat viral on Italian social media recently, when Alfa paused the track so that a fan could propose, making the track an even more sweet, romantic sound than it already was.

🇸🇪 Jon Henrik Fjällgren – “Metanoia”

Colombian-born, Swedish-Sámi singer Jon Henrik Fjällgren has entered Melodifestivalen on four different occasions. The singer placed second in the 2015 competition, third in Mello 2017, fourth in 2019 and most recently placed fourth, once again, in 2023 with “Where You Are (Sávežan)” alongside Arc North and Adam Woods. Jon also performed as the marquee interval act at the 35th edition of the Sámi Grand Prix in Norway, in 2025. This week, Jon has released “Metanoia”. The track, in typical Jon Henrik Fjällgren style, mixes Sámi sounds with a banging beat. This is exciting.

🇫🇮 BESS – “Ihminen (Vain elämää)”

BESS competed in the 2022 edition of Finland’s UMK national final with her electro-pop record “Ram pam pam”, becoming a fan favourite in the process. She would place 3rd in the national final, behind Cyan Kicks and eventual Eurovision representatives The Rasmus (who also feature on this week’s round-up). Despite not winning the national final, “Ram pam pam” became a massive hit in Finland. It was the most streamed Finnish song of 2022, and broke records in the country by spending 19 weeks at number one on the Finnish Radio Airplay Chart. She returned to the UMK stage the following year and appeared as one of the interval acts alongside The Rasmus. For the 2023 Contest in Liverpool, BESS acted as the jury spokesperson, giving the 12 Finnish points to Loreen’s “Tattoo”. In 2025, BESS once again appeared as an interval act in the UMK national final, alongside Linda Lampenius, Keira and other Finnish icons. BESS is currently taking part in Finland’s Vain elämää TV show, and this week takes on the music of Samuli Putro, with BESS releasing “Ihminen”. BESS really has made Vain elämää her moment to shine.

This week, the musical theme came from the hits of prominent Finnish singer, songwriter, and film score composer Samuli Putro.

🇮🇸 Ásdís – “History Repeating”

Ásdís took part in the Icelandic national final for Eurovision, Songvakeppnin, back in 2014 with the song “Amor”, but was unable to make it to the superfinal round. More recently, she served as a songwriter on Hera Björk’s “Scared of Heights” in 2024, which won Söngvakeppnin and represented Iceland at Eurovision in Malmö. The singer has released new single, “History Repeating”, and it’s a great track. Uptempo dance-pop meets indie electronica. This is really sweet.

🇪🇪 Meelik – “Kaugel eemal”

Four-piece alt-rock/indie band Meelik took part in the 2023 edition of Estonia’s Eesti Laul national final with the song “Tuju”. The group just missed out on a spot in that year’s superfinal, despite being a fan-favourite before going into the final. Members of the band had previously appeared in Eesti Laul back in 2012 under a different name. The group, then called Tenfold Rabbit, placed 3rd in the 2012 national selection with the song “Oblivion”. The latest single to come from Meelik, “Kaugel eemal”, mixes country and indie for a deep, intriguing sound full of soul and personality.

🇸🇪 Anis Don Demina – “SPRING!”

YouTuber and media personality Anis Don Demina has featured on the Melodifestivalen stage several times, most recently as a contestant in 2020, placing fifth in the final with his song “Vem e som oss”. He returned to the contest in 2021 as a co-host of the 2nd heat, alongside Oscar Zia (who is due to co-host the 2027 edition of the Swedish contest). This week, Anis has released his latest track “SPRING!”. The song is an upbeat pop-rap track with a big sing-a-long chorus. The beat drop is heavy, and the fast-paced chorus really makes you want to move.

🇺🇦 STASYA – “Тільки не закохуйся”

STASYA competed in the wildcard round of Vidbir 2024 with her song “Rika”, but failed to make it to the televised final. This week she is back with new single “Тільки не закохуйся”, which translates to ‘Just don’t fall in love’. The song is a beautiful, emotional pop-rap track with a trap beat. STASYA really is an impressive talent in the Ukrainian music scene.

🇮🇹 sangiovanni – “la verità”

Italian singer-songwriter sangiovanni has competed twice in Italy’s Festival di Sanremo. Making his debut in 2022 with “Farfalle”, he returned to the festival in 2024 with the track “Finiscimi”. This week, ahead of the upcoming “TUTTO BENE GRAZIE” album, due in a fortnight’s time, comes new single “la veritá”. This makes me really excited for the upcoming album. The track is catchy, vibey, and just overall a fun song.

🇪🇪 SADU – “TEINE VAATUS”

Though SADU as a band have never taken part in Eesti Laul themselves, many of the members have a connection to the national final. Frederik Küüts has appeared in Eesti Laul twice, as Fredi. The musician took part in 2020 with Anett and the song “Write About Me”, and again in 2023 alongside Anett with the song “You Need To Move On”. Küüts has also appeared twice in the selection as a songwriter, with credits on Rahel’s 2021 entry “Sunday Nights” as well as gem98’s 2025 entry “Pyscho”. Sofia-Liis Liiv, who provides both vocals and violins to the SADU project, was credited as a co-writer of Inger’s 2023 Eesti Laul entry “Awaiting You”. Founding member of SADU Sandra Sillamaa has her own connections to the Eesti Laul national final, appearing as a jury member in the 2016 edition. The band have released their latest album “TEINE VAATUS” this week, featuring a number of their recently released singles. All I can say is listen to this, start to finish, in one go, and enjoy it. 10/10

🇸🇪 Hanna Ferm – “Vill Ha Dig”

Hanna Ferm has competed in Melodifestivalen in Sweden on multiple occasions. In 2019, she competed as a duet with LIAMOO, finishing in third place with the song “Hold You”. The following year, Hanna returned as a solo artist with the song “Brave”. She finished in fourth place in the 2020 Melfest Final. Hanna features on the new Svea S track “Vill Ha Dig”. This is a banging track, with a really catchy beat.

🇺🇦 The Hardkiss – “Not This Time”

The Hardkiss are probably most connected to the Song Contest through lead singer Julia Sanina’s role as co-host of the 2023 Contest in Liverpool. But the world famous prog-rock band had previously tried to represent Ukraine, in the 2016 national final and first edition of the revamped Vidbir show. In the final of the selection in 2016, the band won the jury vote outright, but when the public vote was added, they were tied for first place with Jamala. Because the rules of the contest in the case of a tie-break prioritised the public vote, Jamala won the ticket to Eurovision, and eventually went on to win the entire 2016 Contest in Sweden. Julia opened the entire 2023 season of Eurovision, performing the band’s iconic song “Mayak” at the beginning of the first Semi-Final in Liverpool. This week, the group join Beyond The Black for new single “Not This Time”. And wow, what a single it is. This is emo perfection.

Honourable mentions / tenuous links

🇬🇧 Alesha Dixon – “Fire Lily Rising”

Before being best known as a TV personality in the UK, Alesha Dixon was a musician. Firstly, as a member of the 00s UK Garage group Mis-Teeq, who sold over 12 million records worldwide, and later in her career as a solo artist. But in 2023, Alesha joined the Eurovision world as a co-host of the Contest in Liverpool. Alesha, ever a busy woman, features on the new soundtrack of the short film “Fire Lily”, and has released the single “Fire Lily Rising” this week. This is a really sweet record, showing off Alesha’s vocal talents.
