Second up today is Norway , who will be represented by TIX in this year’s competition with his entry ‘Fallen Angel’
What did we think of the rehearsal?
TIX has stuck almost entirely to the staging he brought to the MGP final, with a few minor changes. His six demons are reduced to four to comply with the six-on-stage rule, and he is BEDAZZLED. His suit is bedazzled, his chains are bedazzled – he has out-bedazzled Vasil. Otherwise, the performance will feel very familiar to Eurovision fans. The angel wings, trademark glasses and headband are still there. He stands on a centre podium with the demons surrounding him, and the focus is very much on the styling of the performance rather than complex LED effects.
Now what did our team think of Norway’s rehearsal?
Rory: Norway haven’t strayed too far from their comfort zone with this staging. Being almost exactly like the staging in MGP, it still shows TIX chained to his demons. Luckily there is a bit of a switch up in the final chorus with the burst of orange light. However, I’m not sure how likely people will access this and may see it as a bit gimmicky.
Jazzi: Everyone that follows us knows I love TIX, however the rehearsals around him leave me a little worried he may get forgotten. There are no major changes to his performance as I expected. I hope he can make it as this staging works for the song. The burst of Orange light at the end may signify that there is always hope even in the worst situations, and I really like that. I just hope this stands out enough to qualify as I really love this song.
Rosie: It’s very much another case of don’t fix what ain’t broke for TIX. In a hotly-contested MGP, Fallen Angel emerged victorious with this staging, and it makes sense to simply adapt it for the Eurovision stage here. My problems with this remain the same as they did for MGP – I feel like the staging obscures and masks any sort of vulnerability or authenticity that exists in the song and turns it into a gimmick. However, if you’re backing TIX, I see no reason why you wouldn’t be happy with what the Norwegian team have done here!
