Up next today is Bulgaria, who are being represented by VICTORIA. VICTORIA will be singing the song ‘Growing Up is Getting Old’ in this year’s competition.
What did we think of Bulgaria’s rehearsal?
The song opens with VICTORIA sat on the floor, the lighting is orangey-brown. It feels like sand is falling to the floor throughout the performance. In the chorus we we see a platform in the ocean! In the second verse Victoria remains sat on the cliff like platform looking down at a photo of a couple. As the second chorus arrives Victoria stands up and puts her hand out to the falling sand. In the climax of the song we start to see warm yellow lighting and what looks to be stars on the black LED screen. Victoria is wearing a blue jumpsuit and trainers throughout, which works for this simple but beautiful staging. Victoria sounded amazing throughout the run.
What did we make of Georgia’s rehearsal?
Rory: This is some incredibly powerful staging from Bulgaria. While the song doesn’t do much for me, the way the story is told is innovative and forward-thinking. Victoria’s vocal was note perfect, and you can tell she herself was getting emotional just singing it. This really does have the potential to win the semi-final and do extremely well in the final. Perhaps we shouldn’t discount Sofia 2022?
Jazzi: I really did enjoy the staging works really well with the song. The staging is simple but it brings out the vulnerability of the song very well. Victoria looked and sounded amazing the staging. This will tug at people’s heartstrings. Before I was pretty certain this would do well and after seeing it I am even more sure it will. This staging is the first that has brought me potential winners vibes
Rosie: I cried. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I have nothing more to say.
