National finals season won’t begin for another few months, but preparations are well underway. Albanian broadcaster RTSH announced last week that submissions are open for the 60th edition of Festival i Kenges, their traditional selection show for Eurovision.
Though no date has been set for this year’s contest, Festival i Kenges typically takes place in the week before Christmas and is usually the first national final of the Eurovision season.
Festival i Kenges 2022 Submission Requirements
According to RTSH, potential entries will need to submit the following:
- The final version of the song
- An orchestral version with and without backing vocals
- The score of the song for the orchestra and live band
- A MIDI file version of the song that “connects” instruments with devices that produce and control music
- Full text of the song
- A photo and biography of the singer/group including any accomplishments
RTSH has not given a closing date for submissions, but has mentioned Eurovision 2022 as one of the prizes.
Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest
Albania made their debut at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 with Anheza Shahini with “Image of You” which managed to place 7th in the final. Since their debut, Albania has participated 17 times and qualified the final 10 times; their best result came in 2012 when Rona Nishliu placed 5th with “Suus”.
In 2021, Anxhela Peristeri represented Albania with “Karma”, which gave the country its third straight grand final qualification and finished in 21st place with 57 points. Coincidentally, it was also their third song in a row to be sung in Albanian.
Who would you like to see represent Albania in 2022? Should they keep sending songs in Albanian? Let us know in the comments or on social media. Don’t forget to follow ‘THAT Eurovision Site’ on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
