As we prepare to say goodbye to the Eurovision class of 2021, we present the TES Awards! 136 people voted across 12 categories, and it now brings us great pleasure to announce our winners.
In this category, we celebrate the joy that we experienced during the Eurovision 2021 season. You just had to be there for it. Many notable memes and moments were nominated, and while only three can be recognized in this category, I’m choosing to dedicate this little spiel no one probably reads to a few of the others that didn’t quite get enough votes to hit the podium for this award. Gjon’s Tears rapping, Sophia Euskirchen (otherwise known as Jendrik’s middle finger!), the stage technician stepping into Manizha’s dress and zooming away, Jendrik’s wholesomeness for participants who couldn’t fully participate (such as him photoshopping Montaigne into the Eurovision experience and honoring those who couldn’t make the turquoise carpet) and Tusse’s French version of Voices when he thought he was going to Notre Dame rather than Rotterdam – we salute you.
And now for the winners…
In third place… PLAY JA JA DING DONG!
Did any of us expect the Eurovision movie to keep being referenced almost a year later?
In second place… Go_A (including Emmie Van Stijn)!
Go_A had a few moments that were named as highlights of the season – Kateryna’s love of traffic cones, and the infamous “look at me, I’m happy” from their qualifying press conference. However, the most frequently-named one was their second rehearsal featuring incredible stand-in Emmie Van Stijn. Definitely worth leaving that shift at Taco Bell for.
And the winner of the Meme or Moment of the Eurovision 2021 season is… Our four 0-pointers!
Shout out to the voter who termed them “the four horsemen of the 0-point apocalypse” particularly. Jendrik is War after he suddenly began to feel hate. I can’t think of funny things for the other three, so let’s just say James Newman is Famine, Blas CantΓ³ is Pestilence and Jeangu Macrooy is Death. I, for one, welcome this apocalypse.
Well, that’s not quite this category done just yet. See, one other participant got so many votes here, that we had to give them their own award in recognition of this. Keep your eyes peeled to see who…
