A number of Eurovision and National Final stars were nominated for the 2021 MTV European Music Awards, and now we know the winners. In a ceremony held in the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena in Hungary, multiple awards ended up going to Eurovision favourites. You can see the full list of results here.
Wins across Europe
There were many familiar faces among the regional award winners. Gjons Tears, who participated in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, won the award for Best Swiss Act.
Diogo Piçarra, who competed in Festival da Canção 2018, won the award for Best Portuguese Act. The Best Russian Act award went to Max Barskih, who finished second in Ukraine’s 2012 National Final. And the award for Best Spanish Act went to Aitana, who competed in Operación Triunfo in 2018.
A big night for Måneskin
But the biggest Eurovision winners of the night were Måneskin. The 2021 Eurovision winners were nominated in three categories: Best Italian Act, Best Rock Act, and Best Group. They also were one of acts invited to perform live at the ceremony, firing up the crowd with their song “Mammamia.”
Måneskin were up against big names in both global categories, including acts such as Imagine Dragons and Foo Fighters. On the night, Måneskin won one of the three awards they were nominated for, the prestigious Best Rock Act award. Their acceptance speech is part of the best speeches of the night, as chosen by MTV:
