After successfully getting through the auditions, German singer and 2015 Eurovision contestant Ann Sophie Dรผrmeyer last night took part in the Battle Rounds of The Voice of Germany. Ann Sophie, who participated in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with “Black Smoke,” made it through to the Sing-Off round in an excitement and drama-filled show.
A night of nerves and surprises
Having picked Sarah Connor as a coach, Ann Sophie had to take on fellow contestants Archippe Mbongue Ombang and Jennifer Williams-Braun to see who would make it to the Battle Round. Ann Sophie was nervous at first. In a touching moment, she talks with Archippe about how the self-doubts her Eurovision result caused come back up in a competition such as The Voice.
By the time the pre-battle started, however, Ann Sophie found her voice again. With all three contestants singing “Stand Up” by Cynthia Erivo, both Ann Sophie and Archippe were chosen by Sarah Connor to go on stage. The coach remained unsure, however, and in a twist, decision decided to change the rules. Instead of two, three singers would take the stage in the Battle Round, which meant that Jennifer would also take to the stage for the Battle Round.
Battling for the sing-offs
All three singers give a great performance in the Battle. Coach Mark Forster, who worked with Ann Sophie during the 2015 German National Final, even calls it the best Battle he has ever seen on the show. Fellow coach Johannes Oerding focuses his praise on Ann Sophie in particular. Sarah Connor ends up choosing Archippe, but the Battles weren’t over yet. Per video call, both Mark Forster and Johannes Oerding asked Ann Sophie to choose one of them as their coach, with Ann Sophie joining Johannes’ team. Jennifer, meanwhile, joined Nico Santos’ team, meaning that all three performers made it through to the sing-offs. The two sing-off rounds will be held November 25 on ProSieben and November 28 on Sat. 1, and can also be watched online.
