🇳🇱 Netherlands announces new creative team for Eurovision

Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS has announced that the Netherlands will have a new creative team for Eurovision. The announcement comes at the same time as Dutch representative S10 was drawn in the first half of the first semi-final.

Who’s who and doing what

Three people were announced to be part of the Netherlands’ creative team. Wouter van Ransbeek, former creative director at the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, is the creative supervisor. He will work together with S10 to come up with the creative concept for her performance. Marnix Kaart has been announced as stage director. Kaart was the director of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. He will be responsible for translating the staging concept to the actual performance. Finally, Henk Jan van de Beek will be responsible for the lighting. Van de Beek was lighting designer for the 2021 contest and also was part of the 2017 Dutch delegation.

The Netherlands at Eurovision

The Netherlands is one of the founding countries of the ESC, having performed the very first song ever on the Eurovision stage back in 1956. While the result of “De Vogels van Holland” is unknown, the Netherlands have clocked 5 wins, with their most recent in 2019. However the Netherlands are also known to have had the longest ever non qualification streak in the semi-final era – they missed out on the final a whopping 8 times between 2005-2012. As the host of 2021, they automatically qualified to the final in Rotterdam. Their song “Birth of a new Age” reached 23rd place, with 11 points, all from the juries.
