Today rehearsals for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 kicked off. Countries rehearsing on Day 3 include Finland, Israel, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Malta, San Marino, Australia and Cyprus. First to rehearse today was Azerbaijan’s Nadir Rustamli.
Nadir Rustamli’s first rehearsal
The next act to take to the Eurovision 2022 stage at the Pala Alpitour in Turin was Azerbaijan’s Nadir Rustamli. He will sing the song “Fade To Black” at Eurovision 2022 after he was selected to represent Azerbaijan earlier this year.
Following Nadir Rustamli’s first rehearsal a clip of his rehearsal was posted on TikTok. The clip showed him before and after he took to the Eurovision stage for the first time. The clip also gave us some insight into how well his first rehearsal went.

What did we learn about Nadir Rustamli’s staging?

There seem to be some big steps in Nadir’s stage show, which was hinted at by the Eurovision live blog when the stage show was being set up. Nadir is joined onstage by a contemporary dancer. The lighting really helps guide this stage show. At the end of the song, the stair will split, leaving Nadir facing the dancer on stage with him.

About Nadir Rustamli
Nadir Rustamli is a popular artist in Azerbaijan, after winning the most recent series of O Ses Azerbaycan. In addition to winning, his coach was Eldar Gasimov – one half of Ell and Nikki, who won Eurovision in 2011. Aged just 22, Rustamli is also a skilled competitive singer, representing Azerbaijan at the Youthvision International Song Contest. At the Contest, Rustamli finished in a respectable second place.
Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has a near perfect qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018. Azerbaijan is also famous for its impressive on-stage performances. In 2021, Efendi represented the nation, who received 65 points and finished 20th with her song “Mata Hari.”
