🇬🇧 TaP Music commences search for the UK’s Eurovision 2023 representative

After the announcement that the BBC will once again collaborate with TaP Music to find the UK’s Eurovision 2023 representative, the latter has now taken to social media to confirm that the search for the UK’s representative for Liverpool has now commenced.

The collaboration between TaP Music and BBC continues

As we have previously reported, TaP Music will once again be working with the BBC on their entry. The label is behind some of the United Kingdom’s biggest stars, including Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding, and presided over Sam Ryder’s once-in-a-lifetime second-place finish at last year’s contest, the UK’s first top-ten finish since Jade Ewen in 2009.

The team at That Eurovision Site has been hopeful that TaP would continue working on Eurovision, and staff at the BBC and TaP Music alike are excited for the continued partnership. Representatives of TaP Music, Ben Mawson and Ed Millet, said in a statement to the BBC that they are “so proud of [Sam Ryder’s] fantastic success, coming 2nd in the competition and then achieving a number 1 single. 2022 will be a hard act to follow but we’re more than ready for the challenge”.

UK’s Eurovision Journey

Despite a recent slump in results, the UK is one of the most successful countries at the Eurovision Song Contest. Debuting at the second edition ever of the Contest in 1957, the United Kingdom has won the competition on five separate occasions. The most recent win for the UK was in 1997 with Katrina and the Waves, singing “Love Shine A Light”. The UK also holds the record for the number of second place finishes – currently at 16.

In 2022, the UK was represented by Sam Ryder with his song “SPACE MAN”. The performance managed to impress juries and televoters, and the UK finished in second place with 466 points, their best placing since 1998.

Do you think the UK can continue with good results? Who would you like to see at the 2023 contest? Let us know in the comments or on social media. Be sure to follow ‘That Eurovision Site’ on TwitterFacebookTikTok, and Instagram as we gear up for Eurovision 2023!
