🇲🇪 ENISA was to represent Montenegro before withdrawal

Earlier today, Eurovision fans were shocked when broadcaster RTCG confirmed Montenegro would not participate in Eurovision 2023. Upon the announcement, Montenegrin-American artist ENISA revealed that she was supposed to represent the country in Liverpool before the withdrawal.

Who is ENISA

Enisa Nikaj, also know as ENISA, is an artist from Brooklyn, New York. Her parents are Albanian Montenegrins who immigrated to the United States before she was born. She began to release music in 2016, and signed with Atlantic Records in 2019. In 2020 she released her song “Love Cycle” which later went viral. She is also a familiar face to those who watched the inaugural American Song Contest. She represented New York with the song “Green Light” making it to the second semi final where she missed out on qualifying for the final. In revealing that she would have competed, she also confirmed that the country’s reason for withdrawal was due to financial difficulties.

Montenegro’s Eurovision Journey

As an independent nation, Montenegro debuted in 2007 with Steven Faddy’s “Ajde, kroci”. This began a string of non-qualifications, until their first appearance in a Grand Final in 2014. Montenegro’s best result came in 2015 with Knez’s “Adio”, scoring 44 points and placing 13th. Their most recent appearance in the Contest was in 2022, when Vladana finished in 17th place in the semi-final with 33 points with her song “Breathe”.
