Cyprus has officially revealed that Andrew Lambrou will represent the island nation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
Andrew Lambrou – a familiar Eurovision face
Andrew Lambrou is no stranger to Eurovision events. An Australian of Cypriot descent, Lambrou took part in the 2022 edition of Australia Decides with his track “Electrify”, finishing in 7th place.
Now, Cyprus’ national broadcaster CyBC announced that the male pop star will represent the country at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. In a statement posted across social media platforms, the broadcaster said:
The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation announces that, further to the agreement it has entered into with Panik Records of Greece and in cooperation with the City Pop Records of Australia, Cyprus will be represented at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest by the popular singer of Cypriot descent Andrew Lambrou, who is represented by the New York based Saiko Management.
As was recently announced, the 2023 contest will be taking place in Liverpool, United Kingdom this coming May.
More details about the entry will follow at a later stage.
Statement from Cypriot national broadcaster CyBC
No specific details regarding the release of Lambrou’s song have been announced. Additional information regarding Cyprus’ participation at Eurovision 2023 will be revealed in due course.
Cyprus’ Eurovision journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 38 times (31 of which where they were in the Grand Final).
In 2022, CyBC internally selected Andromache to represent them in Turin with the song “Ela”. During their participation in Turin, Andromache failed to qualify for the Grand Final, and managed to place 12th in the Semi-Final, receiving 63 points from the Jury and Televoters.
